Sixth Sense, Standpoint Gallery, London, UK                                    8–23 March 2024

Sixth Sense was the sixth instalment of an ongoing collaboration between artist Denise de Cordova, Standpoint Studios, and students from the Royal College of Art Sculpture programme, presented as part of the annual Festus event. The exhibition invited participating artists to explore spiritual, medical, and sensory interpretations of the “sixth sense.” Medically, the sixth sense refers to proprioception — our unconscious sense of bodily awareness. It also alludes to synesthesia, where one sense triggers another, and to spiritual intuition — a perception beyond the five senses. For artists, it becomes a gut feeling that arises when imagination takes over, guiding the creative process toward the unknown. The works on display reflected this rich spectrum of interpretations, emerging from two weeks of intensive workshops, talks, and skill-sharing. Together, sculpture students, tutors, and guest artists formed a collaborative alliance, producing work within the expanded field of sculpture that embodied the theme’s depth and resonance.
